Delighted to see HRH The Duchess of Cambridge wearing my pink lace hat at Trooping of Colour today, her last public engagement before her baby is due. A lovely surprise on a day busy with Ascot orders in the studio!

Creating masks for this summers Animal Ball

A busy few weeks in the studio, on top of Ascot orders I have been enjoying the creative buzz of designing and making masks for the Animal Ball this summer at Lancaster House in aid of the Elephant Family charity. What a fabulous night ball goers will have, masked and dressed up, in the grounds of Clarence House in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall and then to Lancaster House where Jools Holland will be playing.

Spring forward!

It has been a whirlwind spring, a fabulous three weeks in Tanzania and Kenya, then home to more baby finches in the aviary, the arrival of two big fat happy hens and of course a busy time in the studio!

Delighted to see that HRH The Duchess of Cambridge wore one of my hats again at Buckingham Palace Garden Party today, a nice surprise in the middle of a busy day working on Ascot orders!

I am amazed to see how long it is since I have posted a blog! The New Year is already old news as we rush headlong into March…where has the time gone! Well, I started the year with company in the workroom, my friend Lali came from Tanzania to stay for a whole month of intensive millinery practice. Constant company in the workroom and the house might have been a recipe for disaster, or at least a bit of stress but she fitted into work and home life so well that we all desperately missed her when she flew back home…ladden with hats, blocks and millinery supplies…..that made for an interesting moment at the check-in desk at Heathrow! So thrilled by all she achieved, looking forward to her return, and certainly a milliner to watch in the future!

Meanwhile some new pieces on the go in the studio ready for the spring/summer season that I keep telling myself WILL surely arrive….so hard to believe amidst the seemingly endless grey cold days we have had here, roll on summer, pretty please!

Sale pricing and flight watching!

A bright golden globe in the sky, what is it!!!

Busy pricing hats for next weeks sale, there seems to be a real buzz about it, so many people seem to be excited! One of the showstoppers in the sale…..

A few more examples are on the ‘sale’ page on the website, (www.janecorbett.co.uk) but only a taster, a visit to the showroom next week is the only way to see all the beautiful hats in the sale!

Meanwhile…..I have one eye on flight arrival and departure websites as I am off to collect my friend Lali from Heathrow….just as soon as she can get out of Istanbul, poor girl left Tanzania at dawn and it is not going to plan….fingers crossed she will be snuggled up here later tonight!

Goodness…..I admit I am glad to see the back of December, a blur of flu and Chablis! Least said, soonest mended!

Here is to 2013, which started with a perfect crisp blue sky day and walking to the Uffington white horse, I had almost forgotten what sunshine looked like, goodbye to cobwebs!

A busy year ahead which starts with a BIG sale in the showroom from the 14th January and then a new collection of hats for the Spring, and a new bridal collection…..

Soon I have fashion student Hannah returning for work experience for a few days, and likewise Lali here for a month from Tanzania! There will be trips to buy materials and trips to see beautiful things in London, photo albums and scrapbooks to update, sketches to be pinned up and fresh ideas to be worked on, collaborations with Allison Rodgers and Giles Penfound to inspire me…..I had better get into the studio and clear the decks!

Wishing all my friends, clients and blog followers a very happy, peaceful, creative, healthy and rewarding year ahead!

Autumn hats and Allison Rodger collaboration

Finally we can move on from bemoaning the lack of summer sunshine and enjoy some Autumn sunshine! Cold days (and of course rain) but there has been enough blue sky and bright sun to make the colours of golden leaves in the garden sing out!

It is the season of luxurious peachbloom felts, glorious natural feathers and a touch of beadwork for a sparkle!

Delighted that some of the pieces from my Autumn collection are now in London at Allison Rodger, Ebury Street. http://www.allisonrodger.co.uk A big thank you to Allison, I have so enjoyed working with such a talented designer and we are both excited about working on some collaborative pieces for the Spring!

Looking forward to the November workshop and busy in the studio….just distracted on a regular basis by the latest gorgeous little balls of fluff out in the aviary….the six finches (known as my Lulu’s) have now multiplied to seventeen!

Spring 2013 Collection and ‘Stand Up To Cancer’ Gala

This image is a sneak preview of the Spring/Summer 2013 Collection, as ever they will all be one-off pieces, each unique but to a theme and style that is my mood of the moment. I designed and made this particular piece especially for the Stand Up To Cancer Gala Auction to be held in London later this month. It has proved to be the starting point for the Spring collection, filigree straw work is the trade mark of the new pieces………

Many thanks to Giles (again) for a fabulous (very last minute) photo and I hope the hat is a big success at the auction, not least because Cancer Research is a charity close to my heart. In the studio here there are more filigree creations underway, it may be grey outside but I am thinking light and airy days as I work on these delicate pieces!

So lovely to see HRH The Duchess of Cambridge wearing on of my creations at a wedding on Saturday. A soft grey straw trimmed with organdie that I embroidered to match the embroidery on the dress……I so enjoyed creating this piece, one of my favourite hats!
