Phew, that’s all over! Ascot is of course a great highlight of the English calendar but for this milliner it seemed particularly exhausting this year! However I was lucky to meet some lovely new clients along with loyal regulars, I made some beautiful hats, took part in the ‘Meet the Milliners” event at Harrods and then……a brief rest to recharge the batteries and get on with other creative projects!
Now I am extremely busy again and excited to be working hard in the studio towards my favourite event of the year, Art in Action at Waterperry Gardens, Oxfordshire 17-20 July. So delighted to be invited back to show and demonstrate my work in the textiles tent again this year.
Just a few days now and I will be packing up and taking the ‘studio’, hats, and textile sculptures to the event. It is always a treat to meet up with so many wonderful makers and to see the flood of enthusiastic visitors! It is a busy few days but always a tremendous boost to the creative spirit, I know all demonstrators and teachers at Art in Action feel the same! Especially looking forward to catching up with Elsa Cappelli, Allison Rodgers, and our Textile leader Kate Wells and the ever lovely Joanna Migdal who first introduced me to Art in Action .
As well as my stand in the Textiles section I have created a glass domed triptych sculpture for the ‘Best of the Best’ exhibition, here are some little details of the 3 sections of the piece……
My theme for this years Art in Action pieces has become ‘Cornucopia’, with filigree, flowers and horns aplenty, in the millinery and in the sculptures!
I will also be giving a talk as part of the ‘Garden Lecture’ series. If you have never been to Art in Action then make this year your first visit, not to be missed for anyone interested in any area of art, craft and design!
Soon after Art in Action I am looking forward to teaching two days at Kensington and Chelsea College, so delighted to be invited back, I love teaching!
All too soon it will be August…..time to welcome our new little puppy (can’t wait!), to get out my porcelain clay, fire up the kiln, and to finalise some big decisions about ‘what’s next’……all will be revealed in the Autumn!
